Donna S. McDermott recently left a position as Professor and Associate Dean for SImulation at the University of South Florida College of Nursing. She is currently on a pause while she looks for her next adventure. She has a B.S.N. from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S.N. from Robert Morris University, and a Ph.D.
in Nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is an advanced certified
healthcare simulation educator (CHSE-A) and accreditation site reviewer through the Society for
Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). McDermott served for six years as an invited member of the Healthcare
Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP™) Committee. She chaired the writing of the
HSSOBP™ Prebriefing and was a member of the subcommittee that revised the HSSOBP™ for
Simulation Design. Her areas of expertise include prebriefing and preparing simulation learners, faculty development in simulation,
simulation design, simulation operations and leadership.
