Associate Professor Jennifer Viveiros is honored to represent the NO STIGMA research team.
In 2022, the NO STIGMA Nursing Research Team was granted $595,485 by the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE) to create a web-based toolkit of empirical high-quality simulations for nursing students at all levels - undergraduate to doctoral. This toolkit aims to reshape perceptions of opioid use disorder, treating it as a chronic condition and cultivating empathy among nursing professionals. The goal is to dismantle treatment barriers and enhance patient outcomes for those struggling with opioid use disorders.
The team crafted six community-informed, evidence-based simulations specifically designed to challenge and change stigma surrounding the care of individuals with opioid use disorders. Initial testing of these simulations demonstrates significant reduction in stigma among nursing students across various levels of education. The NO STIGMA comprehensive Simulation Toolkit includes everything from detailed simulation narratives and scripts to debriefing guides and instructional videos, providing a rich educational experience.
The NO STIGMA Nursing Team is dedicated to disseminating the NO STIGMA Simulation Project. We've had the privilege of sharing our findings and contributions on local, national, and international forums, aiming to drive forward evidence-based education and elevate care quality for individuals with opioid use disorders and their families.
