Nanci McLeskey, DNP, MCG, MDiv, GERO-BC, FNGNA, joined the University of Utah (U 0f U) College of Nursing (CON) in January 2012, where she is an Associate Professor, teaching in the Gerontology Interdisciplinary Program and the undergraduate nursing program. Prior work experience includes 20+ years as an intensive care unit and medical-surgical nurse, was an Alzheimer’s director in an assisted living facility, a nurse educator in long-term care, and a geriatric nurse educator in the Division of Geriatrics, the University of Utah School of Medicine.
Dr. McLeskey received a BSN in nursing (Columbia University, NYC), a Master of Clinical Gerontology (Baylor University), a Master of Divinity (Truett Seminary, Baylor University), completed one unit in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX), a Teaching Nursing Post-Master’s Certificate, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree (University of Utah College of Nursing). Dr. McLeskey is board-certified in Gerontological Nursing. Dr. McLeskey is a recipient of the Distinguished Gerontological Nurse Educator Award by the National Hartford Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE). She has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, co-authored a textbook chapter on geriatric assessment, given multiple presentations, and presented numerous posters.
Dr. McLeskey is an End-of-Life Education Nursing Consortium (ELNEC) trainer in both the Geriatrics Curriculum and the DNP Palliative Oncology Care Curriculum. She is an active member of Sigma Phi Omega (Past President), Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), Gamma Rho Chapter, Utah Falls Coalition, Utah Dementia Coalition, the Utah Alzheimer’s Association Board and member of the NHCGNE Educational Committee. Educating students on the care for older adults, especially those with dementia and those at the end of life, is her passion!
