Dr. Colburn graduated from the University of Texas-Arlington with a BSN and continued her nursing education with an MSN from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) School of Nursing. She has been an Assistant Professor in the graduate department of UTMB since 2020 and is the Track Coordinator for the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
Dr. Colburn has demonstrated both teaching expertise and leadership within the AGACNP track including development of a robust clinical simulation program for the Acute Care NP track. She is involved in multiple IPE Simulation pilot studies including multispecialty clinical simulation. Dr. Colburn has served as the major professor for several DNP students’ scholarly projects, served on the Board for the STTI Alpha Delta Chapter, and was elected to the Board of Directors for the Society for Vascular Nurses in July 2021, where her scholarly pursuits included selection for service on the Society for Vascular Surgery's Population Health Taskforce. She has presented her research on Peripheral Arterial Disease and Interprofessional Simulation experiences for the APRN student at local and national conferences, authored a chapter in the recently published AG-ACNP Textbook by Springer Publishing, and is currently on the Society for Vascular Nursing's (SVN) curriculum committee writing content for the SVN's upcoming textbook which will be published by the Society in collaboration with the American Nurses Association.
