Graduate NP Simulation Development: Integrating INACSL Best Practices and the NONPF simulation template

Abstract : The International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Best Practices guide faculty in the development of purposefully structured simulations to support consistent outcomes that align with Nursing program outcomes. The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) also developed an evidence-based NP Simulation Template to facilitate Nurse Practitioner simulation development. This workshop aims to provide beginner NP simulationists the opportunity to develop an NP simulation scenario using INACSL Best Practices and the NONPF simulation template in a safe environment of peers and experts. Participants will learn essentials of NP simulation development including Needs Assessment, Program Outcomes, Course Objectives, Measurable objectives; and the use Prebriefing; Debriefing; Evaluation; and Participant preparation.
The workshop includes both didactic and experiential teaching methods. Faculty will provide participants with an overview of INACSL Best Practices followed by a guided use of the NONPF Simulation Template. Participants will work hands-on developing a NP simulation scenario from a provided example or a self-selected NP scenario. Faculty will provide participants with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to development, implement, and evaluate this NP simulation scenario. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will discuss barriers and facilitators to Graduate NP simulation design, implementation, and evaluation.
